ELECTROSTATIC SPRAY GUN APPLICATION OF LUBROLENE WFR-EC
EXTENDS DIE LIFE SIX-FOLD

Ultraseal International and Aoki Science Institute tell Euroguss 2012 how novel die lubricant cuts improves quality and reduces costs.


Around £440,000 a year can be saved on the cost of operating an 800 ton die cast machine if Lubrolene WFR-EC is used in preference to a conventional water-based die release agent, visitors to Euroguss 2012 have been told.

Ultraseal International and the Aoki Science Institute of Japan jointly presented a paper outlining the unique advantages of WFR-EC oil-based lubricants which are designed to be applied in a novel electrostatic spray.

This method of application takes the already-established advantages of Lubrolene's WFR series of lubricants a stage further - offering greater coverage, thicker lubricant film, higher quality castings and speedier production times.

Tim Butler, of Ultraseal International, and Koji Togawa of the Aoki Science Institute explained how the "wrap-around effect" of the electrostatic spraying creates more comprehensive lubricant coverage.

Especially suited to the casting of complex parts, electrostatically applied Lubrolene WFR-EC can reach behind slide pins and effective spraying can be achieved with only 1/1,000th of the volume required by a conventional water-based lubricant.

Significantly there is far less wear and tear on the die due to the absence of thermal shock associated with water based lubricants, greatly extending die life. Typically dies last six times as long as usual and significant savings are achieved.  

The presentation - which Ultraseal International and the Aoki Science Institute were invited to give - received a lot of interest at the prestigious 12th International Die Casting Congress in Nuremberg, Germany, in January.
